This poem describes how something negative is looked at positively. The subject of the poem is how someone loves their job, but when reading between the lines the poem has a deeper meaning. In the poem they use vocabulary like "slave, drab and grey, deadly." This shows that the subject is actually negative because it is about how a cat is being taken away into a lab. If I were able to speak to the poet, I would ask why the cat is happy when the outcome of the job unfortunate? I think the cat is happy when the job is unfortunate because the cat does not know anything beside this job. I don't think he knows what is actually happening to him. Is the cat being tested when writing this? I do think the cat is being tested when writing this because he says, " Those friendly men who've come today." In this quote "today" is a key word, so it shows they have taken him away today.
